Material

Classic Jain

Angel light lace : 1/1/1/1/1/1

Hand dyed Angel light lace from Thelma Steimann, the yarn is airy and light yarn with a mixture of 80% extra fine merino and 20% Silk. The yarn works perfectly as an alternative to silk mohair. Approx 100g / 800 m in each skein.

Kid silk mohair : 3/3/4/4/4/4

Hand dyed kid silk mohair from Thelma Steimann, the yarn is a mixture of brushed 72% Kid mohair and 28% silk singles , it ́s lightweight luxurious mohair yarn, super soft and fantastic to work with. Approx 420m/50gr in each skein.

Leftover Jain

The pattern was created to make use of leftover mohair threads, so please feel free to mix together any mohair threads as desired. The sweater weighs between 200 - 300 gr, and you can play with any leftovers and change out colors as you want. Wild Jain

Hand dyed brushed baby suri alpaca from Thelma Steimann, it ́s lightweight, super fluffy and super soft to work with. Approx 225m/100gr in each skein. 

Wild alpaca : 2/2/2/3/3/3

The wild version is only knitted with 1 strand.

Circular needles 60 and 80 cm in 8 mm.

Circular needles 40 and 80 cm in 12 mm.

DPN 4 – 5 pieces ; 8 mm.

Be sure to check your own tension before starting to knit.

Cast on 9 stitches with 4 strands (1 Angel light lace & 3 Kid silk mohair) and knit 12 rows on needles 12 mm for a 10 x 10 cm sample.

If tension measures too tight, change to a thicker needle.

If tension measures too wide, change to a thinner needle.

Good to know

The sweater is knitted with four strands of yarn from the bottom to top in a circle .The body and the sleeves are knitted separately and then connected together from the armpits and knitted from there together for the yoke and neckline.

Yarn quantity required is based on an average , and is therefore an approximate number. 

This is the  perfect leftover yarn project ! 

Recommended technique for a leftover project :

Change the threads accordingly : Every 3rd - 5th row ; remove 1 colour and add in another colour instead. Just make sure you are always working with 4 strands of mohair/Angel lace at the same time. When you run out of mohair, you can simply felt the threads together. Leave around 10 cm of your end to rub against the new thread, slowly your yarns will start sticking to one another and you will have little or even no threads to weave in when you’re finished with the sweater. Just tie knots with the Angel lace. Push yourself in mixing colours with high contrast or even colours your would normally not put together. See how the colours rub off to one another and how the shades can change. You are your own designer here, as you are not only knitting you are also sculpting your own textile and hopefully emptying out your knitting stash.
